Connecting with nature, direct physical contact with the ground and Earths natural (negative ion) DC energy has proven to support health and even be anti-inflammatory.
Grounding literally makes you part of a circuit. Outside connecting to natures DC energy is good, inside, in a man made 60Hz AC electromagnetic field not so good. Your body runs on DC not AC. To connect to Nature you have to be outside in Nature.
OUTSIDE - the DC energy and negative ions flow thru you (and into you) which is good.
INSIDE - the man made AC electric field (inflammatory positive ions) going to ground thru you is not so good. Grounding inside does not remove or reduce the electric field you are in, it just continuously goes thru you to ground.
If you ground to the house ground you are not connecting to Earth you are connecting to your house electrical system. An outside ground is almost always better than the building ground. Building ground can connect you to AC electrical “ground affects” and dirty electricity “DE”.
As the referenced article below states for best results practice good electrical hygiene when grounding.
If being in contact with metal is bad, if metal bed frames and metal bed springs are advised against why would you want to be physically connected to either the ground wiring of your home or a 50ft +/- “antenna” going outside?
If you are in an electric field, Earthing/Grounding does not remove the electric field or lower your exposure. It does make you part of the circuit and can make things worse. This is where a Body Voltage Kit (BVK) helps you see and hear what is going on.
Grounding (Earthing) makes you part of the circuit and lets that energy flow thru you. It does not remove the electric field you are in - it connects you to it. See video below.
Grounding is becoming very popular because of the good results many are experiencing, however, others are having bad experiences . . . this page may help to explain why and what to do to be successful. Grounding connects you to the field/energy you are in. Grounding OUTSIDE to natures naturally negatively charged electromagnetic DC field this is good but INSIDE in a man made positively charged electromagnetic AC field - not so good.
Grounding/Earthing in nature is good - Our bodies are electromagnetic, they act as antennas and capacitors and attract and store the energy around us - outside that’s the natural atmospheric energy of nature, but inside it’s the 60 Hz electric fields from the wires in our walls and all our appliance’s etc. (the wires in your home put out an electric field 6 - 8 feet into the room. The natural energy in your body is DC, the natural energy (electric field) in nature is also direct current (DC), full of negatively charged ions shown to be anti-inflammatory, while man made, non-native electric fields from alternating current (AC) positively charge our body and cause inflammation.
For best grounding be outside. ALL energy follows the path of least resistance to ground so for successful earthing/grounding inside, FIRST, you need to remove the AC fields - turn off, unplug or ground everything AC electrical around you (especially the circuits, wires in your walls) . . . or else you become the path of least resistance, for all the AC electric fields around you. You do NOT want to become the conduit/ground for these AC fields and this could be why grounding does not work for some.
MEASURE and UNDERSTAND - the BVK (Body Voltage Kit) lets you measure the fields and locate where they are coming from. When you use a BVK you are being grounded, if you are double grounded (bare feet or touching a ground pad) you will get a false reading.
MITIGATE - REMOVE what you can (switch off, disconnect, unplug, the things that don’t need to be on). At night your head is probably 12 inches from a wire in your wall. If you sleep with a grounding pad and do not turn that circuit off - that AC field flows through you to ground ALL NIGHT LONG. In your office, the paper shredder can be unplugged when not in use. REDUCE the fields you cannot remove. Things that have to stay on (especially during the day) move them away from you. The printer can be unplugged when not in use AND be on the other side of the room when it is. Computers and external hard drives should be grounded (3 prong plug) if 2 pin - use a grounding pad, ground AC devices NOT you, let the grounding pad take the field so you don't.
MEND - Removing inflammatory AC fields and connecting with anti-inflammatory DC fields outside will help you mend. Watching the sunrise and sunset with your bare feet on the ground (grass/dirt) could be the #1 healthy thing to do. Our bodies are also capacitors, they hold electricity and earthing is the way to get rid of this built up AC electricity. Get away from electric fields, go to the beach (bare feet on wet sand), get outside in the garden, hands in the dirt, feet on the grass, rock, even concrete works (but NOT asphalt). Outside, try not to wear insulated shoes (rubber and plastic soles that separate you from the ground).
What about grounding/earthing inside? The beach is not an option for many. Getting out at all, is not easy or even possible for some. So what to do? At a minimum, find a mitigated space (turn everything off) measure to confirm and then ground your body for a few minutes 2-3x day, preferably with an outside ground. BUT, like most things in life there are at least two schools of thought here.
Only ground outside in nature. Don’t be grounded inside unless you have measured and removed/reduced all the AC electric fields, (turned off circuits, grounded all the plugged in appliances, gadgets and gizmos that are on) . . . Then ground to the outside. Create an EMF mitigated sanctuary in your bedroom (the EMFSafeSwitch is the only UL listed remote cut off for doing this safely).
The argument goes, you shouldn't ground to the house ground because in built up areas, the ground in and around our homes can be "polluted", a source of dirty electricity (DE). (”DE” is harmonics of 60 Htz caused by the transformer to the house, inverters, dimmers, CFL bulbs, TV's etc. and also the ground itself). The ground wire in your home is joined to the house neutral in your circuit breaker box and these electrical AC “artifacts” can and often are on the ground wire in the home . . . hence, in home grounding in populated areas is not advised . . . Natural grounding in nature at least twice a day is healthy, go outside, to the beach, hug a tree, walk in a park.
Earthing/grounding is always good, all the time. The advantages of grounding out weigh any disadvantages.
YES, remove/reduce what you can and then ground. At night, I think everyone agrees, grounding to a clean ground brought in from the outside is better than the house/building ground for the stated reasons.
For those for whom that is not possible (living is an apartment, in the city etc.) what to do? You must ALWAYS check the ground you plug into to make sure the circuit is safe. Then, ensure as clean and safe ground as possible. One of the best ways to do this is with the EMFSafeSwitch “NP” with a whole house “DE” filter. The “NP” disconnects the neutral and power on the circuits that affect your sleeping area so helps “clean up” the house ground.
You should still watch the sunrise and sunset with your feet on the ground and go to the beach as often as possible. Happy and safe grounding.
Turns out one of the big benefits of grounding in nature is that very act of walking bare foot. In addition to connecting to the ground the action of walking bare foot stimulates the pressure points on the feet and blood circulation. This paper states: “Ideally, biological grounding should be undertaken in environments with good electromagnetic hygiene . . . “ (low EMF) it is a long read but very informative:
Our bodies are both antennas and capacitors that attract EMF and hold electricity. Reconnecting to the Earth often is good.
Leaving electrical circuits on and grounding still leaves them to have an effect on your body. One of these affects is to suppress your melatonin levels, which, affects your ability to get a good nights sleep. Turn EMF off at night . . . and then ground if you want to.
