Whole house, 24/7, all circuit “DE” power quality filter

In this independent, third party, real world test the EMFSafe PQFilter™1 & 2 are compared with other whole house “DE” filters the RxDNA, Satic, SineTamer. The PQFilter™2 has now been upgraded to the 2.1 with even more filter capacity.

Measurement Equipment 

The professional grade EMF Services Line Noise Meter, 

Peak Voltage/RMS Voltage, Picoscope and/or Owon Oscilloscope Waveform, Spectrum Analysis.

The popular but consumer grade (limited frequency) Greenwave and Stetzerizer EMI Meters.

Many Engineers regard “Peak Voltage” the most accurate measurement, but as in most fields there are differences of opinion. Also the Greenwave & Stetzer EMI meters are known to measure in a much narrower frequency range than the EMF Services Line Noise Meter for example. 

To date. The team has completed 8 assessments across 3 geographical locations with varying DE sources including Grid-tied Solar microinverters, VFD blower motor within a Geothermal heat pump, VFD Pool pump, HVAC and background grid noise.

In two tests (using Peak Voltage) EMFSafe PQFilter™‘s were #1, in a third test the Satic Power Perfect Heavy was #1 and the EMFSafePQ2™ was #2 with just 4% difference between them.

In real world situations, using Stetzer & Greenwave EMI meters, we are averaging an 85% reduction in “DE” throughout the whole house. Please note, each home has a unique combination of “DE” frequencies that change throughout the day/year, there is no guarantee of similar results.

2024 Results

More tests have been conducted since the ones listed above using the same “rig” and we are pleased to say the EMFSafe PQFilter2 is still #1 in real world tests.

*Cutting off the power to the circuits that are affecting you, especially in your bedroom at night, is the only efficient way of dealing with any EMF/“DE”.

Inline active “DE” filters are the most efficient and effective. With the use of an oscilloscope they can be “tuned” to filter the specific EMI, “DE” frequencies you have. A whole house inline filter system can cost $10,000 or more. 

Parallel passive “DE” filters are more common because they are less expensive: the whole house EMFSafe PQFilter™, RxDNA, Satic, SineTamer all work on the same electronic principle. The Greenwave and Stetzer plug-ins are also parallel filters. That said, with your unique combination of “DE” sources one may be better for you than another, however, without measuring all frequencies with an oscilloscope you will not know for sure. 

“DE” will change through out the day and year because power quality from the electric company can change as will the activities of your neighbors you share a transformer with. Add to that your own activities, devices, heaters, chargers, lights, pumps etc. changing throughout the day/year. 

EMI meters from Alpha Labs, Greenwave, Satic, Stetzer etc. are “consumer grade” and are limited in the frequencies they measure, they do not tell the whole story as does an oscilloscope. These meters are a useful and inexpensive way to see if you have an underlying “DE” problem to begin with. 

People think adding more filtration will fix the problem, “just get more plug-ins” but this is not the case. One of the things the third party testing above showed is that there is a balance and adding too much filtration can make the ”DE” worse. 

Passive/parallel style whole house filters are attached to the main panel (where the power comes in) and as such are more effective to filter “DE” coming into the home than plug ins throughout the home. Whole house filters at the panel also help reduce “DE” on all circuits throughout the home.

Unless you are prepared to spend 10’s of thousands of dollars on testing and then on a tuned active, inline filter, your best bet will be a parallel style whole house filter. AND, without having a professional come in with an oscilloscope and monitor your house for a few days in the summer and then again in the winter comparing the results of all the different filters . . . you might as well get the best all-around AND best value for money filter.
